Vlad Cycles

Vlad Cycles fabricates unique bicycle frames that are designed specifically for you.  We make frames to order, one at a time and work directly with you throughout the frame fabrication process to bring your vision of the next ride into the frame.

Our badge, Troika, was inspired by a traditional Russian carriage or sleigh drawn by three horses harnessed abreast.  Troika first appeared around 18th century and was used as a method of transportation across vast Russian terrain.  Troika became a symbol of speed, endurance, free spirit, and is widely used in folkloric scenes, movies, paintings and literature.

We are located in Boonton, New Jersey.  For more information please visit vladcycles.com and facebook.com/vlad-cycles.

Vlad’s Fat Bike Built at Metal Guru:

After years of dreaming to learn art of bicycle frame fabrication, two years ago, I finally decided to realize my dream and attended the Metal Guru, bicycle fabrication school launched by Carl Schlemowitz who founded Vicious Cycles in 1994.  Carl’s vast experience in the frame building art and his one-on-one instructions set up gave me the necessary skills and tools to set up my own shop and build my own frames under brand name, Troika.  Here is my first frame built at Metal Guru.

TIG welded steel construction, ss drivetrain, Paragon rocker adjustable dropouts, White Brothers snowpack fork, painted finish, Jen Green’s custom head badge,  Surly Lary 3.8 and Nate 3.8 front and rear tires on 60mm rims, respectively.

Award Entries:
Vlad’s 650B Plus Troika (Entry for: Best mountain bike):
We loved the idea of the versatile mountain bike that takes 27.5" wheels with 2.8" to 3" tires and 29" wheels with up to 2.4" tires. The 650B Plus bike made sense to us - an all conditions mountain bike that runs on the dirt, snow or whatever terrain it encounters. The frame geometry designed around 29er/100mm travel Rock Shox 15mm thru-axle fork. Custom removable rack was added for those who likes long trips in the woods or to carry tools for trail maintenance. We used Dedacciai's butted steel tubing to build this frame, including Deda's tapered oversized head tube 45/56mm OD for an additional front-end stiffness. 650B Plus Troika features new Paragon Syntace 12 x 142 rear thru-axle system. It enables rear wheel to be positioned very quickly on the dropouts, and added taper on the axle allows free-play clamping in both axial and radial directions. This dropout system is stiffer, has less weight and allows for simpler removal of rear wheel than other comparable rear-end dropout systems. In addition, the bike equipped with modified Shimano XT 10 speed drivetrain, which includes Wolf Tooth Components' giant 42t cog and 32t narrow/wide chain ring.
