2015 NAHBS – March 6-8 - The Kentucky International Convention Center
Challenge North America

Challenge creates handmade Tubular and Open Tubular tires using an artisan process that allows the rubber to retain its natural properties. By avoiding the industry-standard vulcanization process, which requires extremely high heat, we provide tires with the superior grip, performance and comfort required by demanding professional athletes and everyday riders. Continuous research in sophisticated raw materials and production processes make us unique. Challenge offers top-end Silk and Cotton casings with the highest thread count possible, plus puncture protection and advanced natural rubber compounds for suppleness, safety and strength.

Challenge tires are produced by hand in Thailand close to sustainable rubber plantations. Here the skilled staff create tires using processes that have been honed for twenty-five years in Thailand and for decades prior when the factory was in Italy. The Brauns family, long time activists of the cycling industry, purchased the factory in 1990 to support their growing customer base. Wanting to do more with our growing expertise, the family decided to create their own brand and Challenge was born in 2003. Though we still produce tires for other brands, our primary focus now is on developing our own line of handmade, high performance tires.

Recent introductions:

  • Baby Limus – a fast-rolling mixed-conditions tire that utilizes the legendary Limus side knobs, a fast-rolling center tread and transition knobs that provide low rolling resistance and impressive traction over mud, pavement and everything in between.
  • Almanzo 33 – based on the championship-winning Grifo XS, the low-profile tread pattern speeds the Almanzo over trails and roads where the hardpack conditions start to get loose.
  • MTB Two – a larger volume casing and more aggressive tread make the MTB Two the ideal tire for more aggressive cross country trails and wetter conditions. The soft rubber compound refines the already superior grip and speed of Tubular mountain bike technology.

We’ve also expanded the number of sizes for our handmade road tires, reduced the weight of our track tires, begun production of our own tubular glue and continue to provide the industry’s only seamless latex inner tubes.
